Born in Florence (Italy), Adria Ferrali started her studies
in dance and piano at an early age in her native town.
She graduated with a degree in the humanities in 1984 and completed one year of Theater History studies at the University of Literature and Philosophy
of Florence.
In 1987, after a workshop at the state theater with Yuriko Kikuchi, she was offered a full scholarship to study at the Martha Graham School of contemporary dance in New York.
In 1989 Ferrali joined the Martha Graham Ensemble
as a principal dancer until 1992 dancing such roles as red girl in Diversion of Angels,
Marie in El Penitente and the lead woman in Acts of Light.
That same year, she was invited to join the Martha Graham Dance Company.
Since 1989, Ferrali has been a member of the Pearl Lang Dance
Theater and the european representative of Lang’s artistic
and tecnical tutoring system.
During her performing carreer Ferrali has danced under the instruction
of famous teachers and choreographers Martha Graham, Pearl Lang,
Yuriko Kikuchi, Bertram Ross for modern dance, Madame
Darvash for Ballet, Matt Mattox for Jazz.
In 1993 Ferrali was assistent to Yuriko Kikuchi
for the Dutch National Ballet. She was guest teacher for the “Toladŕ
Dance Company” in Berlin and for “Mind the Gap”
and the “Maia Lex Dance Theater” in Cologne.
Ferrali has taught and demonstrated classes in the Graham tecnique
in many colleges and University in the United States, like the Marymount
Manhattan College and Pace University in New York and the University Of
Texas.
Ferrali is also a faculty member for two dance accademies in Berlin
and still travels there for choreography work and intensive courses.
In 2000 Ferrali has completed her one evening dance
drama based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth titled “The dark tower”.
The work was presented at the theater Talia in Göteborg (Sweden)
with great success.
Lis Hellström from Göteborg Posten writes that
”it’s an historical night of dance”.
In the same year she was invited as a guest teacher at the school
of the Royal Danish Ballet has being invited back as a guest
choreographer for the year 2003-2004-2005.
Ferrali was a faculty member at “Dansewerkstaedet Copenhagen”
in Denmark and at the “Ballettakademien Göteborg”
in Sweden and at Dance Studio 1 in Berlin.
In the year 2002 she was guest teacher at the University College of Stockholm for both the Dance and pedagogy Department.
Ferrali was a guest artist at the National Opera of Ukraina for the international Nijinsky Festival (2002-2003) and received the Nijinsky Price in 2003 as best dancer and best choreographer.
Her project on Hamlet has toured Germany with the European Youth Ballet in the spring of 2002 and premiered as a full one act ballet titled “Hamletus Stirps Virilis” in July 2003 at the preminent Festival “La Versiliana” in Marina di Pietrasanta, Italy.
The School of the Royal Danish Ballet has also
staged her choreography at the Royal Theater (Copenhagen) in March 2003 and celebrated her Nijinsky Price with a public announce on stage.
In February 2004 Ferrali is a guest choreographer and teacher for the School of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and in the spring of that same year she is guest of honour as a dancer and choreographer at the “Serge Lifŕr Festival” in the National Opera of Kiev.
In July 2005 she is presenting a dance evening at ”Firenze Danza”,summer Festival of the Maggio musicale Fiorentino at Villa Strozzi.
In January 2006 the Royal Danish Ballet is presenting her choreography at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC within the International Ballet Academy Festival.
h after in Denmark Flemming Ryberg presents "Spring Time" in a Gala evening at the smaller stage of the Royal Danish Theater.
In the summer Ferrali choreograph and stages "Zorro, a dancing legend" for the Festival La Versiliana 2006.
Zorro is created with the artistic cooperation of Sebastian Dubois and Thomas Johansen athletes of the French and Norwegian national twirlig teams.
The project is highlighting contemporary arts in dance, music composition, singing, choreography and the art of twirling.
The ballet it's defining a new experimental form for this company. The group it's composed with artists from different nations: Denmark, Russia, Norway, Sweden, France and Italy.
In september of the same year Ferrali is performing as a guest at the Gran Galŕ evening of Danza Si at the Teatro Greco in Rome together with Angelica Stella dancer of the Martha Graham Ensemble New York city.
Angelica becomes a member of the New dance Drama.
In February 2007 the apprentice dancers of the Royal Danish Ballet are dancing Labyrinth on the main stage of the Royal Danish Theater
The music is composed and played by Kim Helweg on piano.
In the summer of that same year Ferrali it's choreographing three new important ballets:"Genesys","Sacrifice" and "Notte".These dances are part of an evening for the Versiliana Festival 2007 titled "Origins,the seventh seal".The press is responding with vivid enthusiasm to the creations. The cast is composed of Thomas Johansen,Angelica Stella and Giovanna Gamna.
